About us
The Browns Plains Presbyterian People’s Story

We are a community of ordinary people from different nations, states, towns, suburbs and walks of life, united in love for Jesus Christ, our living, sovereign Lord.
Founded in 1984 on Godly values and mutual care, Christ-centred Bible teaching has continued to inspire us to be what God wants us to be – a people for His glory and a blessing to our nation and other nations.
As part of the Presbyterian Church of Australia our roots were birthed out of the Reformation and are resolutely evangelical. We seek to follow Jesus Christ as wholehearted disciples, and to show our love for each other through humble service.
Jim Hopkin’s long role as an Elder has been particularly significant for the Browns Plains Congre-gation because he was the first and founding elder.
He pushed for the small Browns Plains Congregation to become independent and no longer a preaching place of the Acacia Ridge Church. Jim also had a hand in the purchase of ten acres of land in Waller Road, at a time when it was all bush.
When two other elders were added, Browns Plains became a Home Mission Congregation with Jim Hopkin as Session Clerk. It was Jim who moved that a graduating student from the Queensland Theological College, Danny Mihailovic, become our Pastor and he remained such for the next 28 years.
With only 22 members, the fledgling congregation set about building a place to meet and launching the strong spiritual foundations that bind us together as a thriving Christian community today.
Our present pastor is Rev André Schwartz.
As an expression of God’s heart, families are our focus – from the aged to the babes. Out of our rich variety of backgrounds and experiences we learn from one another and grow together in our knowledge of God. Because of this we develop our love for each other, those alienated from God and the nations least reached with the Good News about Jesus Christ.
Just as God invited us, “Come unto me and I will give you rest…” (Matthew 11:28-30) so we welcome all people to join us to love and serve our Lord God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. You’ll discover how “normal” we are when you meet our Pastor and some of our members who are enjoying this rest, and serving the Lord.
